5000 books from Kaifi Azmi’s personal collection donated to Aligarh Muslim University

A personal collection of 5000 books belonging to renowned poet Kaifi Azmi’s books were donated by his family to The Maulana Azad Library at Aligarh Muslim University. The book will kept under a special section called Kaifi Azmis Collection in the library. Kaifi Azmi, a member of  Progressive Writers Movement, was born in Mijwan village in January 1919. He died in 2002.

The formal event happened in presence of Kaifi’s daughter Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar and Vice Chancellor Lt Gen Zameeruddin Shah.

Aligarh Muslim University recruits JRF and SRF 2014

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is hiring for the post of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Senior Research Fellow (SRF). Interested and eligible candidates are required to send their job applications before April 30, 2014.

Vacancy details:

Title of Project: Integrated Sustainable Power Generation From Short Rotation Forestry ‘Enhanced Bio-Mass’ In Rural and Semi Urban Areas of India

Project duration: Three Years

Name of post:

1. Senior Research Fellow (SRF)

Pay: Rs 16,000/ per month including HRA

2. Junior Research fellow (JRF)

Pay: Rs 12,000/- per month including HRA

Eligibility criteria:

For SRF: The applicant should have done his or her postgraduation in Environmental Engineering/Agriculture/Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry or Botany.

JRF: The applicant should have done his or her graduation in Civil Engineering/ Agriculture/ Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry or Botany. It is desirable if the applicant possesses laboratory skills, good computer knowledge and knows data management.

Aligarh Muslim University signs pact with Ohio State University – The Times of India

ALIGARH: The Ohio State University proposes to launch a pilot project in partnership with AMU to meet the growing need for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) faculty in India.

US secretary of state John F Kerry signed eight MoUs with minister of human resource development MM Pallam Raju to step up collaboration and build partnership between American and Indian institutions of higher education.

One of these involves the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Each of these projects will receive an award of about $250,000.

The AMU programme will be implemented by both institutions to build a STEM-Education and Research Centre at AMU that would be aimed at providing opportunity for education and research in areas of mutual expertise and benefit.

AMU students participate in international energy summit in Norway

Aligarh: Four students of the Aligarh Muslim University participated in the ‘International Student Energy Summit (ISES) 2013’ held at Trondheim, Norway. Syed Raza Quadri, Mohammad Atif Aleem, Omar Bashir Wani and Fahad Zeeshan Khan from Z.H. College of Engineering and Technology actively participated in the Conference.

Omar Bashir Wani participated in ‘Energy for All session’ while Mohammad Atif Aleem was shortlisted amongst 30 students from all parts of the world to participate in the Statkraft Case Competition where he prepared a case for UK’s Energy Scenario in the next 50 years and secured a place among top 6.

Fahad Zeeshan Khan and Mohammad Atif Aleem also won the Lomborg Delegate Pass, which was funded by Prof. Bjørn Lomborg, who is the director of the Copenhagen Consensus Centre and a former director of the Environmental Assessment Institute in Copenhagen.

The AMU students met various erudite professors, company representatives and diverse student community from across the globe and discussed various aspects of Renewable Energy, Sustainability and Climate Change.
